Reverse Lane

The Phoenix City Council met again to vote on this issue on June 9, 2009. ASU researchers presented findings in “Quality of Life Study.” The study culminated in a 13 chapter volume of surveys from pedestrians, drivers and homeowners along the routes of the reverse lanes. The study can be viewed online at: http://design.asu.edu/purl/qualityoflife.shtml.

Options were considered and weighed before the vote concerning the reverse lanes along 7th Ave & 7th St. All Phoenix districts are affected and many of constituents of other districts desire the reverse lanes.

When the time came to vote, not all the councilmembers felt they could responsibly represent their districts by voting against the lanes.

If the vote was not unanimous, then the council would be forced to accept the current system. It was decided to delay the vote another 6 months in order to produce more compelling research for a unanimous vote.

A formal committee of Phoenix residents will be assembled to study more alternatives and to provide a recommendation by December 2009. At which time the vote will be on the agenda again.

If any resident would like to follow more closely on this subject, more info is on District 4’s website or for questions call the district office at: 602-262-7447.
